Can I take them to [work/ the work] with me?

Melanie: I have to go, honey.
Alex: Oh, Not without another kiss. (They kiss.)
Melanie: I adore your lips. Can I take them to work with me?

I'd like to know the difference of the meaning between "work" and "the work" in "Can I take them to [work/ the work] with me?"
Thank you in advance for your help.
