Can I say this?

I convinced my friend to try yoga, so he joined me in a weekly yoga class, but the week after he doesn't show up to what would have been his second time. So right after the class I call him up and says: I guess it wasn't for you, huh?

Can I say this and would it be natural?

Either use all Past Tense as we usually do, or use all Present Tense to add a bit of immediacy to your story. I convince my friend to try yoga, so he joins me in a weekly yoga class, but the week after he doesn't show up to what would have been his second time. "
