Can I say that...

Can I say that,

'Music overcomes cruel reality.'

Is it proper to use a word 'overcome' if i mean to say music mutes bad days? Will it sound weird if I say: 'Music mutes cruel reality'.?

Those both sound reasonable to me. I understand what you mean. ('Overcome' is much stronger and more complete than 'mute', though.)
