Why do you mention 'sent to clients'? Is not all of the document sent to clients? If so, it should read simply:

We are now finishing the work on the document, or rather, (on) its first part.

Hi,
Mister MicawberIs not all of the document sent to clients?

want to change the words used in the OP's sentence. I could be wrong, though.
