My friend went to a shop. He was supposed to buy a tooth brush. But he did not buy it.
In this situation,

Can I say that
' Did it not dawn on you that you should buy the tooth brush?'
'Did it not come across your mind that 'you should buy the tooth brush?'

Did it not dawn on you that you should buy the toothbrush? That is possible, but "dawn" is more like the first time. I would probably use "occur": "Did it not occur to you that you should buy the toothbrush?"
