Can I put i.e. at the beginning of the sentence

I want to give more explanation in the following sentence for the first sentenct. How I use the conj. Can I use i.e. or that is to say?

If you're beginning a new sentence, and want to clarify the preceding sentence, 'That is to say,' would be fine instead of 'i.e.'.
