Can I omit the article 'a' before 'text'?

Hi,

Example:

The history contains several history item entries. Each item identifies a previously approved version of this ABC file. A text within the items can be used to explain further details to this version.

Will the third sentence "become worse" if I remove the indefinite
article (it's underlined) before the noun 'text'?

"Text within the items can be used to..."
