Topic: In the past, most people lived in small villages where everyone know everyone else. Nowadays, most people live in large cities where they only a few people in their area. What do you think were the advantages and disadvantages of living in a small community?

Comparing to the past, the majority of people lived in small villages where they were born. These days, people tent to live in large cities and, as a result, the way people live also has changed.

In my opinion, there were 3 benefits of living a small community. Firstly, people knew each other, therefore they could help together whenever needed. Also, everyone spoke and confided their care to everyone else, so no one ever felt lonely. Secondly, most children who were a part of small villages would be brought up to become polite and respectful by their parents. Because parents spent a lot of time looking after the children and teaching them good behavior. Thirdly, people could stay safely in a small area with the serenity, therefore the rate of crime was less than that of cities.

However, there were a number of disadvantages, especially education. Unlike big cities, most children had a lot of difficulty in going to school. The infrastructure was not invested much so the road to school was too far. In addition, the system of education was not well cared for and most people had to work in agriculture. This fact prevented them from learning and getting in touch with the new ideologies. That was the reason why ambitious people had to move away from the village but few people had the chance to do it.

In conclusion, in my view people from my grandfather's generation were happier. However, in the modern world with the progressive science and technology, it's a pity to be limited to a small community.
