Can I have the water?

When you want a glass of water in the restaurant.

Do you say, 1)Can I have the water? ,or 2)Can I have a glass of water?

I feel 1) is more casual, then maybe I can use it at the fast food restaurant. And 2) is for the common restaurant.

Am I right?

I can't see myself ever saying number 1 in the context of your question. Number 2 is fine.

Hi,

In such requests, the word 'please' is commonly used. Please don't forget that.

Thank you for your comment, Clive!

I didn't notice that I haven't used "please" when I asked someone to do something for me!

Btw, the sentence above is grammatically correct? Can you please check it?

Hi,

Are you talking about a single event in the past, or about something that is your habit?

You can also just ask for "a" water.

We'd like a Coke, a lemonade, a water, and a milk, please.

It means that we'll each have a glass of our respective beverage.

This is closest to what I'd say.

I hadn't noticed that I don't use "please" when I ask someone to do something for me!
