Can I have Mr. Micawber's input too please??

I had posted this query earlier under the question "Could you tell me which sentence is correct?" I would like to hear your opinion too. (If you feel like it, that is) Thanks

Hi,

Which do you think is correct?

He is a patient of Dr. Shafritz.

He is a patient of Dr. Shafritz's.

Top answer

Both are acceptable. The second (the 'double genitive') is more common, and even commoner is ' Dr Shafritz's patient '.
