Can I go somewhere???

My question is from a story online. There was a true story happened in China: A man came to China to visit the Great Wall accompanied by a Chinese coedna. Suddenly, on the great wall, the man wanted to go to the toilet and then said to the Chinese girl:"Can I go somewhere?". Then she thought, now that he had come to the Great Wall, there shouldn't be anywhere that he couldn't go, and she said to the man naturally at once:"You can go everywhere". Then man suddenly became very embarrassed, and realized, it turned out that you could urinate everywhere in China.

Haha, sounds interesting, isn't it?

My question is, the underlined part seems to be an indirect, euphemistic and implicit way to say "I want to go to the toilet", but if I go to the US, and want to find a toilet, What type of questions should I ask the locals, indirect way or direct way, please advise some that people usually use, please also mark which is indirect type. Thanks very much!

In addition, I was also told that "our company is going places"="our company is going somewhere", which means our company is developing and moving forward. Is that the case? Thanks again!

My question is, the underlined part seems to be an indirect, euphemistic and implicit way to say "I want to go to the toilet"-- Yes, but the word 'go' must be stressed slightly differently. '-- those are all-situation words. Anything less direct sounds like baby talk.

  • 'Toilet' is also generally OK, but it is too direct for a few people.
