Can I consider 'both' and 'both of' as quantity words?

Hi teachers,
Can I consider 'both' and 'both of' as quantity words?

a) Both of them have fast cats.
Could this be an explanation to te previous sentence?
b) The two of them have fast cars.

Thanks in advance.

Hi, Sorry. I should have said 'quantifiers' instead of 'quantity words'. TS

'both' is a quantifier. Yes.

"cats" and "cars" are quite different, but assuming you meant "cars" in both cases Emotion: wink, yes, T

Thinking Spainboth (quatifier) + of (preposition)
It's a quantifier and a preposition.
