Can have a hard time explaining?

Dear Friends,

I wonder if this sentence is correct or not:

My essay on generative linguistics can have a hard time explaining Chomsky's view.

Thank you very much.

'Can have a hard time explaining' is probably not the right choice (I suggest ' does not satisfactorily explain '), but more than that, the whole sentiment seems odd for inclusion in the essay. After all, if you write that, why would anyone bother to read the essay?
