Can eyes tell?

"When one is looking in the eyes of somebody, those eyes can tell about the thoughts and feelings of him."

Top answer

Eyes can tell, metaphorically, but the sentence would read more naturally and idiomatically thus: When you look someone in the eye, you can tell his thoughts and feelings. CJ

CalifJimin the eye
I just want to make it clear. In the eye or in the eyes?

in the eye. It's an idiom. to look someone in the eye.

It means both eyes, but the word used in the idiom is eye. Crazy, isn't it?

And can I say: "When eyes meet people may become discomforted" I mean when they look in each other's eye (is it correct, by the way?)

This is not exactly how we would say it.

When eyes meet, people may become uncomfortable.
Tony CanardI mean when they look in each other's eyes
In this case you need "eyes".

And what about: When eyes meet, people may feel some degree of discomfort.

By the way what time is it in California? (just asking)
