Can durabilty Weaken.>?

People are trying to tell me when i say Durability weakens im misusing the word.

So i guess thats my question.

Am i misusing the word durabilty when i say you weakend its durabilty.

The points i made was...

Take a rubber band for example.

It can be strected over and over again and still come to back to form. Pretty durable right. Well when you freeze it, its durability is weakened can no longer be stretched instead it shatters.
