Is there difference between 1and 2?

1. Can you help?
2. Could you help?

1. Will you help?
2. Would you help?

martinlee Is there difference between 1and 2? The only difference I can see is that the sentences with 'could' and 'would' are softer or more polite and/or less direct than the sentenes with 'can' and 'will'. They - could and would - are just the distancing forms of 'can' and will'.
