Is this a sound sentence? Is it correct to write "can be the difference between"?

If I mess up this job, it could be the difference between making a lot of money and none. I better get it right.

These sentences are correct and natural, but the expression is casual.
We also use "it could mean the difference etc."

"I better get it right" is very casual!
"I'd better get it right" is better.
