TASK

Directors of large companies often receive much bigger salary increases than ordinary workers. Employer's organizations say that in a global market this is necessary to attract the best management talent.

Top management personnel like directors, they normally get a large amount of income which is far more than ordinary employees. Is it fair? Someone says it is really unfair because the frontline workers work very hard and the directors are just sitting in the office comfortably. But others argue that the directors contribute the most to the company, otherwise the workers may lose their jobs.

In Hong Kong, some of the directors earn a lot of money indeed and that’s why they have the special name “King of employees”. Sometimes their annual income is as much as 20,000,000 hong kong dollars which is approximately equal to 200 workers’ salary in a year. It is believed that if the directors are undoubtedly smart enough to manage the company and also earn great profit for the company with their leadership, they can surely get good return such as bigger salary increase and millions of bonus. On the other hand, the normal employees also gain benefit, at least that their employment is getting stable.

Offering attractive salary is common practice for a company to seek management personnel with excellent management talent. If they can keep the company growing continuously and stably, there will be certainly no problem at all. On contrary, if the profit of company decreased, or even pushing the company on the brink of bankruptcy, just like the recent financial tsunami in America, the top management of the financial intitutions still obtained a large amount of bonus even though this was criticized by local citizens.

In conclusion, with the rapid development of global market, it is essential to pay more salary or give great salary increase to attract professional experts to operate the company. Their income should be closely linked to the profit of the company.
