Essay & Composition Writing

Can anyone help me with my IELTS writing?

Some people believe that studying at university or college is the best route to a successful career, while others believe that it is better to get a job straight after school. Discuss both views and give your opinion.

It is true that the question of whether to study higher education or have a job after graduating from high school remains a source of controversy. While several people believe that students should find a stable job and make money to be successful at an early age, I would argue that a university degree plays a necessary role in their life.

On the one hand, a nation that wants to maintain a healthy economy needs a diverse workforce. There are more and more careers that do not require theoretical knowledge, such as construction workers, guardians in the offices, or babysitters. Furthermore, not everyone is suitable for higher education. It is based on their cognitive ability to understand what they are taught and their ability to shoulder the financial burden. To illustrate, many students at the universities can not pay the school fees and have to both work part-time and study at the same time, which can negatively affect their performance in class. Additionally, quite a few highly-gifted people find the curriculums in universities are restrictive and boring, then they decide to pursue their own path and passion for more freedom.

On the other hand, I believe that it is beneficial for students to keep studying. Firstly, high-paid jobs require a well-educated workforce with specific savvy and skills. Big companies will never offer high salaries for ungraduated employees. For instance, it is impossible to become a doctor or a teacher without an academic certificate and a university degree. Secondly, society is becoming more developing and the job market is increasingly competitive, which means some repetitive manual jobs will be done by machines and numerous employees will be at the risk of redundancy. Young people who lack qualifications can struggle to compete against others. Hence, higher education is crucial and indispensable if people do not want to be marginalized and unemployed.

In conclusion, although both views certainly have some validity, it seems to me that university is the safest and shortest way to succeed.
