Many Europeans and North Americans do not attach so much importance to names as some Asian people do. Basically, if you want an English name, you can call yourself anything you want to - but try to avoid names that may sound acceptable when translated into your own language but give the wrong impression in English. When I ran a school in China, I had some receptionists who insisted that their English names were Bunny, Fluffy, Cuddly, Tickle and Honey!

If your name is difficult for native speakers of English to pronounce, that is their problem not yours. If you really want an English sounding name, then anglicise your own. My official Chinese name was' Ying Da Hua'. If I had been Chinese, and had had to work with native speakers of English who were not prepared to extend me the courtesy of trying to address me by my own name, I suppose I would have learnt to live with 'Dai Ying'.
