Vocabulary

Can anyone help me out about this question?

I want to know which method is scientific and practical and rapid to learn thousands of vocabularies from Longman.
I read articles about various subjects and sometimes I read news too. When I find any vocabulary or phrasal verb that I don't know its meanings, I look for it in Longman and learn all similar phrases and verbs and etc. of that particular vocabulary.
But I don't know that whether I should set down all that meanings in a specific notebook or not, while those vocabularies always exists in dictionary. Please guide me. Thanks.

You use the word 'vocabulary' too frequently. Sometimes you could substitute it with 'word', 'entry', etc.. Personally I think that it is good only for beginners to note words.

  • As a beginner you can learn words that can be associated with a single word.
  • But soon you will find harder words and you can learn them only with definitions, by interpreting the meaning.

So, finally, what is the best method while setting them down is a type of wasting time? I'm an advanced English learner. Do you agree with setting down only the words and reading their meanings from Longman, time to time?
