Can anyone explain me the meaning of this sentence?

i was reading an article and i read this phrase

'china is the sole beacon of positive growth globally right now'.

I wasn't sure about the meaning of 'beacon' here.

Can anyone explain this to me??

'Beacon' here just means 'bright point in the darkness [of economic stagnation]'. I don't think that the added meaning of 'leading to safety' is involved in this particular use of the word.
