The only word I can think of that fits is "coat" but we don't normally think of sheep has having coats, sheep have fleeces (not fleeces of wool). The sheep began to grow coats of wool. The sheep began to grow fleeces.

thank you so much RayH! Emotion: smile

That makes so much sense than growing "set" of hair that I saw in the book.

Hi,

The sheep began to grow __ of wool.

'Began' sounds a bit odd here to me. Don't sheep always grow wool, just as people always grow hair?

Or perhaps sheep stop growing wool during the summer?

Best wishes, Clive
