Can anybody explain the meaning of the last sentence?

This is a sentence from the movie Lord of the rings..

How do you pick up threads of an old life?. How do you go on..when in your heart you begin to understand.. there is no going back?..There are some things that time can't mend. Some hurts that go too deep.. that have taken hold..

I am not getting the meaning of the sentence written in bold.

Can anyone explain me in detail?

This is my first question on this site.

Hi Harry, and welcome. Some things happen that cause you so much pain (emotional pain) that you will never properly heal. The memories and long-term effects of those wrongs become part of you.
