Letter Writing

Can anybody correct my motivational letter to study abroad?

Ever since I was a year or fifteen I’ve been saying: “One day I will go to the United States of America, to study, to live or to go on vacation, I don’t care, I just want to go there.” And now is my chance to go and fulfill my dreams and even to make it an enrichment of knowledge.

Now the question is: “Why would I choose for America?” This doesn’t just stop with one reason, I got multiple reasons for why I want to go to the United States of America and to study abroad.

First of all, the United States of America are highly recommended for studying computer science because of their technologically advancements they make every year, so, for an applied computer science student, like me, this is the place to be.

Almost every big company known by consumers in this sector is based in the United States of America, for example: Adobe, Microsoft, Apple, Google, etc. All of these companies are a great inspiration for students like me and will somehow guide me in my further career. These companies make me remember why I started studying applied computer science, to work in a company and giving me the ability to say: “I work in that one company that develops things you use every day and every day we develop new things”. I also like to watch conferences on YouTube of some of these companies; I try to watch the Google I/O every year to see what the new technologically advancements are for that company and to know what the ‘world of tomorrow’ will bring me and of course another dream of mine is to go to this conference once I have the chance and ability. That, of course, is not the only reason why I chose for the United States of America.

I have also heard that they offer unique courses which I cannot follow here in Belgium, which would be a great advantage for my further career. I would also like to build up an international career and so this would be a great experience to boost my international career opportunities for my future and a great boost for my English which is also great for my future career especially if I go international. Studying abroad would also be a great way to improve my independency as I will be far away from my family for a long time and I think it’s also great to improve social skills and meeting new people always is a good reason to go abroad. I would also like to get to know the American way of life, a new and different culture to me, for example the catholic belt, experience how catholic the American people actually are. I would also like to know how ‘big’ everything really is in the United States of America because everybody always tells me everything is much bigger in the United States of America.

Hi Chris Roijens; Here are some suggestions. You need to make this cover letter more unique to yourself. Everyone who would write such a letter wants to live in the US, get a good start on their career, work for Google, etc.

I have not heard the expression "catholic belt," and don't know what you mean when you say "how catholic the people are."
