Can a state of being verb take an adverb?

After her next birthday, my sister will be six.

I have always learned that a state of being verb can't take an adverb. But it seems like "After her next birthday" is an adverbial prepositional phrase, telling when. Help!

Thanks,

Christi

There is no such restriction on state of being verbs. You are right. She will still be six the following week.
