Can a pronoun have an article in front of it?

Hi,

I think a pronoun is a word that is used to refer to something or someone like 'he' or 'someone'. Can that kinds of grammatical element (if I can call it this) accommmodate some typical articles 'a', and 'the'? Can you give me some examples?

Hi, As a general answer to a general question, I'd say 'No'. Although you could probably find some exceptions, in informal speech. eg Her baby is a 'he', but she was expecting a 'she' .

  • In a case like this, I'd tend to put the pronoun in quotes to show it is being used a bit specially.
