Can

People who move around a lot seem more independent.

I answer with:

I guess you could say that. Or

I guess you can say that.

Which is correct and what's the difference? Can both be used.

While both are correct, the more usual by far in my experience is the first (with could ). could is more tentative than can, so it goes together better with a tentative word like guess . CJ

While both are correct, the more usual by far in my experience is the first (with could).

could is more tentative than can, so it goes together better with a tentative word like guess.
