Can you play the guiter?

No, I can't, but I was able to play because I was in a band.

No, I can't, but I used to play it because I was in a band.

Now I can't but I used to play a guiter in a band.

Are they correct?

How do you replay to the question when you or your fingers no longer remember how to play the guiter?

Everything in parentheses is optional.

You probably wouldn't say No, I can't if you were going to call attention to the fact that you used to play it.

And you would not have played it because

"Can you play" is commonly used to to ask about your skill. (Do you know how?)

If you "can't play" because you don't have access to an instrument, the answer wouldn't be "No, I can't."

Guitars are not that hard to come by.

If you haven't had an instrument in your hand for ten years, you don't know that you can't play.
