Came to me dim vs came dim to me

"The hope of light came to me dim." this is the context.

Why the adjective "dim" after the pronoun "me", not after the verb "came" such as "The hope of light came dim to me"? I am confused. Please get this easier for me.

If the writer is poor at English, it's bad English.
If the writer is very good at English, it's a deliberate stylistic choice

More conventional is"The hope of light came to me dimly."
