The line graph given compares how much six types of energy have been consumed in America from 1980 to 2030.

Generally, in the USA, most kinds of energy are predicted to follow an upward trend in their consumptions, except for hydropower. Also, Americans have shown their preference for petrol and oil, coal and natural gas, rather than the three remaining types of energy.

In particular, in 1980, petrol and oil took the leading position in terms of the consumption with 35 quadrillion units and saw a fluctuation in a subsequent 15 years before soaring to 48 units in 2030. Commencing with about 17 units, the use of coal is forecast to follow the same increase pattern to the former with the rate rising steeply to roughly 31 quadrillion units in 2030. The volume of natural gas consumed witnessed an erratic behavior in the first 28 years. After that, this figure is anticipated to climb moderately to almost 25 units in 2014, remaining stable till the end of the period shown.

By contrast, the three remaining kinds of energy have been much less preferred by Americans. The initial usages were very small, which were all at a mere 3 quadrillion units. While citizens in the USA are projected to use more nuclear and solar/wind power in 2030 (6 quadrillion units and 8 units respectively), it is expected that the amount of hydropower consumed will stay constant at about 6 units until 2030.
