Calls Someone Home

hi i'm near native speaker of English so i'd really appreciate your help on this particular phrasal/idiomatic question.

i was just wondering if the phrase "calling someone home" could possibly mean "calling someone to come home"? As in "I was out partying late last night and my mother called me home multiple times."

i never had a problem with this particular phrase until i heard the song "Calls You Home" from the movie Pete's Dragon. from then i just kept turning this phrase over and over in my mind. the lyrics related to this question are as follows:

"If you're lost out where the lights are blinding
Caught and all the stars are hiding
That's when something wild calls you home, home."

or could the phrase "call someone home" mean feeling at ease in the presence of someone as if you were at home? i know this definition is so far fetched and ridiculous it doesn't make much sense at all... kinda confused right now.

thanks in advance xo

Calls you home is figurative. It means that you get an urgent feeling from inside yourself that you have to return to your birthplace. It is also used literally.

The phrase "calls you home" is usually used figuratively. For example:

"I moved from a small town in North Dakota to New York City. But after 3 lonely years here I feel like something's calling me home."

In literal usage it is usually applied to young children rather than adults, for example:

"Johnny, your mom is calling you home."
