Calling a girl/woman

Hi all.

Please can someone explain me how I should call a woman or a girl?

I mean when should I use Mrs. Ms. and so on?

Please tell me anything that I should know.

Thank you.

A woman/girl who is not yet married is "Miss."

A woman/girl who is married is "Mrs."

A woman/girl who has previously been married but is no longer so is "Ms." (pronounced like mizz)

If you don't know, then simply use the girl's first and last name, or if you need to use only her last name it is often safest to use "Miss" or "Ms."

According to the Collins Dictionary Ms. is a title substituted for Mrs or Miss before a woman's name to avoid making a distinction between married and unmarried women...

Are you sure that:

A woman/girl who has previously been married but is no longer so is "Ms." (pronounced like mizz)

Ms. is just a generic, it is specifically intended not to say anything about marital status.

Mrs. ['mis?z] - married woman

Miss [mis] - an unmarried woman or girl, esp a schoolgirl

Ms. [miz] - you are not specifying if the woman is married or not
