Called, marvilous experience

Hi, Is it often to see this verb "called" as if was to give a nickname to something?

I think they wrote it marvilous from latin, what made me think it implies to "miracle"? Also in the end of those phrases they talk about revelations so from there I can only think on a mircale for this word "marvilous"

"Joseph Smith’s interpretation came from what he called‘‘marvilous experience.’’. He did not analyze the Bible and derive his doctrines from its pages; he learned from his own revelations"
