Vocabulary

call (in) on, drop by

Hello,
I normally don't say that, but is it okay to say "When I finish work, I will drop by the book shop." or "When I finish work I will call in on the book shop."? I have heard people use drop by this way. Excuse my silly question, it is very embarrassing.

" Yes. "? OK, but it sounds like perhaps you're a book dealer instead of a customer.

I think one could also "shoot off" to the book shop after work, but it is rather informal.

Is this the way "call in on sb/sth" is used? The dictionaries don't say anything about the difference between them, but I could learn from you.

'Call in' to me suggests some sort of business is afoot.
