Good evening. It would be of a great help to me if somebody could check my essay. It was written to be a essay for the Cambridge Advanced English certificate test writing part 1. Providing me with your opinion would also help. Thanks in advance.

You attended a meeting at a local school where possible new additions to the curriculum were discussed. You have made the notes below:

What subjects can we add to our school curriculum?

• computer programming
• home decoration and repair
• Latin

Some opinions expressed during the meeting:

"We need to consider those who won't go to university."

"Learn Latin and you're halfway to learning any other language."

"We need to prepare our children for the modern world they live in!"

Write an essay, discussing two of the subjects in your notes. You should explain which subject would help students most, giving reasons in support of your answer.

Many experts predicted that educational system will undergo an enormous change. According to them, the main reforms are to occur in timetables. The most beneficial new classes for young people were amongst the most popularly discussed topic in recent times. My preferences are computer programming lessons and latin lesson. In my opinion, other courses do not come near second to this two.

Latin is a language that binds european history and therefore the history of states such as USA, Canada, Australia and so on. It has sealed many scientific discoveries and laws that we use till today. What is most crucial is that most of the technical terms have their etymological roots in this language. For that reason it will be vital for everybody´s further studies. On the other hand it can not offer students a practical skill and those who would not continue in their studies may find it useless and unimportant.

Meanwhile computer programming can supply both. Being one of the most demanded skill in recent history, it offers a variety of opportunities for pupils. For example those who would want to focus their career around simple technical work may find it helpful while for those who plan to continue in their academical trail it should be able to sustain them with knowledge in coding various simulations.

To conclude latin and computer programming would both contribute to a better education. However computer programming should be prioritized for the reasons included above.
