CAE certificate

Question

Please tell me how this very certificate looks. Are there the points a person has for the exam? Or is it in percetage? Or probably there is just an A, B or C mark??Thank you beforehand.

Hi,

After sitting for the CAE, you receive first a transcript and later a certificate.
The certificate only contains your overall grade: A, B, C ( <-- these are passing grades), D or E (<--these are failing grades), while the transcript contains a bar chart that explains your performance in each of the 5 papers (Reading, Writing, English in Use, Listening, Speaking).
The transcript doesn't give any percentages or marks, but in the chart there are some thresholds (e.g. weak, good, exceptional) which help you understand how well you performed in each part of the exam.

No, I haven't tried yet ... it's definitely on my agenda, though.

The level of proficiency required is obviously different. You have to know many more idioms and collocations, but also to read lengthier texts in the about the same amount of time, and to write much, much more (two compositions of approximately 350 words each in two hours instead of two of 250 words in 1h30')
Apart from that, there are also some differences in the format (for instance, types of exercises in the Reading paper, or in the English in Use one).

However, as for the format of the exam, there are also many similarities, which is extremely helpful! I took the FCE in 2005, and that really helped me understand how these kinds of tests work.
You know, they say that even native speakers could fail the CPE. Obviously, if a native speaker failed the CPE, that would have nothing to do with his/her knowledge of English, but with his/her awareness of what the exam requires ... rules, strategies, time management, and so on.

To sum things up, I reckon they're different and similar at the same time.

I did those CPE and CAEtest. Yup, CPE is more complex. Still, I hope it is manageable too. Do they got 80 percent correct for an A btw?? As in CAE??

( In case not a secret, what score did you have in CAE) Well, I do understand you have developed a lot in this field, considering it was 2 years ago.

Yes, around80%. Why around? My teacher used to tell us that those thresholds slightly change depending on the year. For instance, he told us that when the test is "easier" ([

]) than usual, a 60% might not be enough for a pass, while in "more difficult" years a 55% would do.
