Hi does "installation" mean here like Training Facility?

from US Ambassadors stating specifically (as Stevens’ did) that an American installation was incapable of defending itself against a sustained attack and that government buildings nearby were flying al-Qaeda flags —"

I'd say that "facility" is a good word in this case, but not necessarily a training facility. In this particular case, the "installation" is an embassy. This would include the building and all the utilities necessary to support the activities of the Ambassador and his staff.

  • I guess it would also include provisions to defend the perimeter of the property against attack.
  • This would differ from the "government buildings nearby," which belonged to the local government.
