by which means vs by means of which

Which is correct? To me, only b makes sense, and I have shown why I think this is below:

a. Technology is the tool, by means of which mankind will find cures for deadly diseases.

= Mankind will find cures for deadly diseases by means of the tool (which). Emotion: yes

b. Technology is the tool by which means mankind will find cures for deadly diseases.

= Mankind will find cures for deadly diseases by the tool (which) means. Emotion: no

I see them only as different word order: both acceptable but A the usual. No comma after 'tool in A, however.

Sorry, I was meant to say 'a' was what I believed to be correct.

b sounds right to me, but the word order is different and (as I showed above) doesn't make sense when reordered.
