By waves I mean a lot at a time

The supporters left the stadium by waves as their team was losing.

How would you say this please?

Thank you

Anonymous How would you say this please? The expression is " in waves", not "by waves". Otherwise, OK.

(I'd use "fans" instead of "supporters" and "because" instead of "as", but your choices are OK.)
