By vs with

1. What I'm trying to say with the sentence...

2. What I'm trying to say by the sentence...


Which preposition is appropriate?

I would choose "with" because the meaning of the sentence 2 sounds as if the sentence were causing me to try to say what.


3. What I'm saying with the sentence...

4. What I'm saying by the sentence...


But I'm suspecting in this case "by" would be correct unlike the case above.
