"By the ways of"

Which one sounds the best:

- The mouse genome is 1 billion years ahead of ours by the means of mutations.
-The mouse genome is 1 billion years ahead of ours in the terms of mutations.
-The mouse genome is 1 billion years ahead of ours by the ways of mutations.

What I'm trying to say is that mouse genome actually isn't older than the human one, but considering the mutations it could have gone through it is 1 billion years ahead.
