By the time the bank guard closed the doors...

Hi

Do you find this sentence OK?

By the time the bank guard closed the doors, a riot had erupted due to the long lines and shortage of tellers.

Tom

I'm one of the old fogies that doesn't like 'due to' used for 'because of'; otherwise, your grammar is fine, though the meaning is a little murky: the riot came before the door closing? Then I don't see why he closed the door.
