By (the) end of the month

I would normally say:

"He is leaving by THE end of the month" but I noted that some people remove the word "the" and say "He is leaving by end of the month".

Just wondering which one is correct?

Thanks so much Emotion: smile

'The' is formally correct. I know you will hear native speakers say things in casual ways, however.
