By the end

Hi,

I just wondered whether I am using this structure correctly or not. If say "by end of ..." in a sentence, are we supposed to use the present perfect tense in it as well ?

For instance;

  • I'll have left the by the end of this year.
  • Do you think you've been pregnant by the end of 2010? or you will be pregnant by the end ....?

There's absolutely no link between past perfect and "by the end." These are all okay.

I'll have left by the end of this year.

He said he would leave in the fall of 2005, and sure enough, by the end of September, he was gone.

I think one could distinguish between:

Do you think you'll be pregnant by the end of 2008?
(if you yourself want that - see will)

Do you think you may/might be/get pregnant by the end of 2008?
(if it might happen by chance, not by your conscious will; get would be better here than be)
