By road

When we use the expression "by road" as in "I went to the stadium by road" we mean that I went to the stadium by means of road as opposed to air or sea. But can we use the expression in the same way when we are speaking of a particular road
as in "I went to the stadium by M.G. Road" ?
Can we use "via" instead of "by" in the above sentence ?

In the first place, we do not normally use we 'went by road'-- we say we 'drove' . It is indeed more common when speaking of a particular route, but we still do not use 'by': We went to the stadium via MG Road.
