However, we do say 'I reckon . . . '

I wouldn't say that "by my reckoning" is massively common in BrE either, but it's natural nonetheless. We say "I reckon" here too. As well as feeling more casual, this has, by my reckoning, less of a sense of careful deliberation.

Clive, if my question is not an invasion of privacy, aren't you a speaker of BrE? There are times you tell us how a certain thing is said or used in Canada, but as far as I know, Canadian English is closer to American English.

I am asking this because two speakers of British English (you and GPY) seem to have a slightly different view about the use of "by
