Hello sir,

I want to ask one question.

What is the main difference between the two sentences below.

1) She passed her test by studying hard.

2) She passed her test , studying hard.

I'd say that the main difference is that the tenses are inconsistent in the second one such that it is wrong. If you need "-ing", you could make it "She passed her test, having studied hard." The first one does not have the same problem because "by" takes "studying" out of the time frame.
