By foot/on foot

I come to school on foot. I come to school by foot. Are these both acceptable in American English? I know on foot is more common.

Can we use by or on for the below sentence?

I'm tired of waiting for buses, I'm going there ......... foot.

Both terms are acceptable, although from how I see it, "by" is used more with transportation. g. I go by train.

  • I go by train.
  • So even if they are acceptable, I myself would prefer to use 'on foot'.
