by foot

I'm aware that some native speakers say, "John goes to school by foot." Is this a standard usage? Which should we use, "John goes to school on foot" or "John goes to school by foot."

Top answer

We should use on foot ; when you say by foot , you view your feet as a vehicle not part of your body.
